Welcome To Barry's Big Trains

Barry's Big Trains specializes in replacement drive trains for Bachmann 4-6-0 Large or 'G' scale locomotives.  Bachmann's locomotives are good looking ones that can be acquired inexpensively through many outlets.  One drawback to the stock Bachmann locomotives is that the drive train in them lacks the power many enthusiasts demand.

A Bachmann 4-6-0 retrofitted with a
Barry's Big Trains drive and a beartrap
spark arrester rounds the curve and heads
home after a day of hauling freight
over the mountains.

To solve this problem Barry has developed two after market replacement drives, the PLUS and the ANNIE.  These drive mechanisms offer an improved, powerful alternative to the Bachmann drive.  The kits consist of a custom extruded replacement frame, large ball-bearing Pittman motor and new stronger gears. In each system we offer the 4-6-0 and two 2-8-0 drives. The 4-6-0 and the first 2-8-0 use the 2" Bachmann wheels, then second 2-8-0 uses a more expensive stainless and cast brass 1 3/4" c-16 wheel. The PLUS features a countershaft drive and laser-cut stainless steel siderods. The ANNIE has the countershaft drive and an equalized front axle and uses the Bachmann cast, hinged siderods, you supply. If you want to fit the ANNIE drive in a PLUS, the cast BBT siderods must be purchased.

The drive features stainless steel hardware to prevent rusty parts.  We manufacture our own power pickups for track powered drives.

Detailed instructions to install this new drive mechanism into the shell of the Bachmann locomotive are included with the kit and can be found here on the web site as well.
Add up to 10 lbs. of weight and you have a superb locomotive.
